Botanical is a photographic series that turns inward, focusing on the quiet presence of flowers removed from their natural setting and observed within the controlled space of the studio. Rendered in black and white, each subject is reduced to form; petal, stem and vein described through tone, texture and light. Without the presence of colour, the images shift away from identification and towards structure and gesture, allowing the flowers to be seen in a more distilled, attentive way.

Through careful lighting and close observation, the work draws out subtle variations in surface and shape, holding each subject in a state of stillness that sits somewhere between bloom and decline. The series reflects on fragility and transience, considering how something fleeting can be given a sense of permanence through the act of looking, and inviting a slower, more deliberate engagement with forms that might otherwise pass unnoticed.
